Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How old does my child need to be to learn
ballroom dance?
A: Every child is different. If you are interested in placing your child
in our youth ballroom/latin group class (for ages 7-11) and he/she has
never had ballroom dance lessons before we encourage you to have your
child do a one on one private lesson with one of our youth instructors.
This will ensure that your child will enjoy ballroom lessons, the
instructor can start covering material from the class, and the
instructor can make sure the material and pace of the class is
appropriate for your child.
Q: What dances will my child be learning?
A: There are three main styles of partner dance taught in our school:
Ballroom, Latin, and Swing. Your child will be exposed to all three
styles in our group classes. We feel this is the best way to make a
student the best dancer they can be and the most rounded - giving them
skills that will last a lifetime.
Q: What to wear to class?
A: For Boys: Boys in our youth or teen group classes should wear black
pants/slacks (with a belt no falling down pants), button down shirt or
t-shirt , shoes can be jazz shoes (not jazz sneakers) or ballroom shoes.
For Girls: Girls in our youth or teen group classes should wear
skirts (dance pants should be worn under skirts) or black pants, leotard
top or t-shirt , shoes can be jazz shoes (not jazz
sneakers) or ballroom shoes (under 11 may only have a short or low
heel).
Q: Do I need a partner?
A: You
do not need a partner for private or group lessons. During private
lessons we teach couples as well as singles. If you are coming in as an
individual your instructor will act as your partner in addition to being
your teacher. In group classes we switch partners constantly giving
everyone a different experience and learning very important leading and
following skills.
